Recycling initiatives

Glasgow City Council is in the process of making improvements to recycling services to increase the level of service offered to all residents in kerbside, tenement and flatted properties.

The changes include:

  • the introduction of a food waste recycling service
  • improving infrastructure in flats and tenements to help residents to use the communal blue bin recycling service more easily

From February this year, internal kitchen caddies, liners and instructional leaflets will be distributed to houses in the North East of the city to enable participation in the new food waste collection service.

Also starting in February blue wheelie bins for recycling that have gone missing within tenement/flat backcourts will be replaced. This will be a rolling programme across the city that will take several weeks to complete.

Existing blue wheelie bins within tenement/flat backcourts will have a blue cap fitted to cover the brush top opening on top of the bin. This will be a rolling programme across the city that will take several months to complete.
