Read on for a round-up of progress from Neighbourhoods, Regeneration & Sustainability (December 2021):

The brickwork, curtain walling and metal cladding to the outside of the building is complete and the school is now wind and water tight. Once the entrance canopy on Queen Margaret Drive has been completed the remaining scaffolding will be dropped, allowing the paving to the main entrance area to commence. Unfortunately, as a result of these works, there will be a period where the footpath to Queen Margaret Drive will be partially or fully closed for a short time on the school side. During this period the services bay / coach drop off will be formed and the pedestrian guard railing will be installed down the majority of the street.

Over the coming months the external hard landscaping works to the pitch and playground area will continue and the temporary construction fencing will begin to be replaced by the permanent school boundary fence. Soft landscaping works will also begin in January, in order to tie in with the planting season. The pupil drop off area, next to Maryhill fire station, has been formed and will shortly be tied in with the existing side street. It is worth noting that additional works were carried out within the fire station site to allow unobstructed access and egress to fire engines, even at busy school drop off / pick up times.

Further to the above, the GCC Roads team has now installed the new pedestrian crossing at the main pupil entrance on Queen Margaret Drive. Once the main external works have been completed the site access road will be closed and the level crossing will be switched on, well in advance of the school opening.

Internally, the building works are progressing well and the first and second mechanical and electrical fixes have been completed. All permanent power, water and gas connections are live and the heating is now on within the building. Finishing joinery works are in progress with suspended ceiling works, tiling, flooring and decoration works all taking place throughout the building. Specialist fit out works including the lift, platform lift and commercial kitchen will also commence in January.

Currently, the works are a few weeks behind programme. However, this is mainly due to the works to the pitch and playground being in delay. In order to address this lag in the programme, City Building has agreed to accelerate the works and are now working extended hours (including weekends) in order to bring the school back on programme.
