NKCC health walk 10 May to Ruchill

We will walk to the old Ruchill Hospital water tower, now in the centre of the newly built Ashlar Village and back via the Westercommon flats and the Claypits.

Meeting point

Meet on Queen Margaret Bridge at the junction with Queen Margaret Road at 2pm, opposite our noticeboard.

About the walk

The walk is a slightly longer one at 5.95km or 3.7 miles. There is an option to cut the last stretch along the canal and finish at the slide at the Claypits if the group want to shorten the walk slightly.

Access/safety

The route is on paths or pavements. There will be some uneven and unfinished paths and a few steps. There are some hills on this route but we have tried to minimise these! There are some roads to cross, so please be careful.

Route in detail

From Queen Margaret Drive, to the lights on Maryhill Road. Cross and walk up Bilsland Drive to Bilsland Avenue, turn up Water Tower Court to the tower itself.

Back along Ward Boulevard, Radiography Road, down the small path that slopes to Bilsland Drive. Right along Bilsland Drive to the small footpath (turn off right just before you reach the basketball court on the far side of the road), walk through to Panmure Street (this is a rough surface and there are a few steps)

Walk to Westercommon Drive, through to the entrance to the Claypits where Westercommon Drive meets Westercommon Road. Through the Claypits to the path that takes you down to the bridge.

At this point we either cut the route short by going down the slide or ramp and back to Maryhill Road via Garscube Road and Trossachs Street (if the group want to finish here). Or for the full route, we turn right along the canal path up to the Murano Street bridge, down to Maryhill Road at the fire station, down Kelvinside Avenue and back to Queen Margaret Drive.
