Glasgow 850How to get involved

Throughout 2025 Glasgow will mark its 850th birthday by delivering, with partners, a yearlong, citywide, programme that celebrates and reflects on our recent past, our present and future.

Glasgow 850 is looking forward to celebrating the role that Community Councils have on the fabric of our city and hope to collaborate to promote your community council and the volunteers that support you. Glasgow 850 is a platform for you to celebrate the volunteers that make all you do possible, as well as an opportunity to enhance your community council’ presence and membership.

We are encouraging organisations and community groups to get involved and create their own celebrations and activities for Glasgow’s birthday. You could hold an open day to highlight your volunteering opportunities and the work you do, hold a celebration tea with your existing volunteers or community, or host a talk related to one of the Glasgow 850.

As part of the Glasgow 850 volunteer programme, we will host a series of training and engagement sessions for our volunteers. These will be a mixture of training opportunities to help grow volunteers’ skills and confidence, and fun activities that help build a strong sense of community amongst the volunteers. We are looking to organisations and community groups to help enhance this programme.

If you would like to grow your volunteer pool, or offer your skills to our training and engagement programme, let us know by emailing Glasgow850volunteering@glasgow.gov.uk and we can discuss ways to promote your Community Council’s opportunities to the Glasgow 850 volunteers.
