NKCC health walk 13 Sept

Our walk on Saturday 13th September will go to Sighthill Park.

Meeting point

Meet on Queen Margaret Bridge at the junction with Queen Margaret Road at 2pm, opposite our noticeboard.

About the walk

The distance is 7.4km (4.6 miles).

The route in detail

We set off down Queen Margaret Road, along Doune Quadrant, Doune Gardens, Striven Gardens, Garriochmill Path, North Woodside Road.

After crossing Maryhill Road and continuing on N Woodside Road, we go right at the end of the cycle path into Windsor Terrace, Clarendon St, then left at the front of Woodside Hall into Glenfarg St, across St George's Road and into the footpath that leads to St Peter's St.

We continue for a short distance and then turn right onto a path which goes between the front of the flats and a green field.

We continue on this path, up a slope past Abercorn School and on to a foot bridge over Garscube Road. We go towards Civic House and take the path to its right and go uphill.

Before reaching the top we continue to the right along the canal and up the slope to the crossing at Craighall Road. We cross to North Canal Bank and follow this to Pinkston Road. (There are works on the road, so we will have to cross the road several times.)

We turn right into Pinkston Road, cross the railway bridge and then left (still on Pinkston Road) into Sighthill Park.

We turn first left and follow the meandering path to Fountainwell Road and turn left and go a short distance to the junction with Keppochhill Road. We cross and go left down Keppochhill Road alongside the derelict Cowlairs Park and cross Saracen St at the Chinese Supermarket (now closed) on to Possil Road.

We go a short distance down Possil Road beside the railings to the former supermarket car park and turn first right into Ellesmere St. After a short distance we turn left into Applecross St (signed for Scottish Canals) and turn right at the cafe (opposite the statue of the elephant) into The Claypits.

In the Claypits we go left to the canal bank then right until we reach the Claypits bridge, which we cross. Then we go right along the canal towpath past the Firhill Basin and under the Nolly Brig and continue to the footbridge opposite Maryhill Fire Station. We cross Maryhill Road and continue along the side of the Fire Station, and turn right into Kelvinside Avenue. At the foot we join Queen Margaret Drive and go left to return to our starting point on Queen Margaret Bridge.

Registration

There is no need to book – you can just come along on the day.

Remember…

★ Please wear comfortable shoes

★ Dress for the weather and consider bringing drinking water

★ Walkers needing 1:1 support should bring a buddy with them to help

★ Children must be accompanied by an adult
