North Kelvin Heritage Group

January 2026

Welcome to our North Kelvin Heritage Group page for everyone interested in the history of our local area and community.

Local history at its most basic is about people, how they lived, worked and what they did which made an impact on a local place, through exploring the evidence in records, maps, stories and other sources which tell us about our local past. There may be some people who become notable or famous, but most local history is rooted in the lives of ‘ordinary’ people.

At our first meeting in November 2025, we put together a starter list of historical resources that anyone can use to explore local history in Glasgow, and some useful links to information about North Kelvin itself. See also our page About North Kelvin.

Get involved

We’re looking for you to share your knowledge, memories and research about North Kelvin, and we’re planning the simplest way to do that. With your help, over time, we hope to produce an information resource, visits, talks, a history trail. For now, let us know if you’d like to join the Group.

There’s so much to discover and share that it can be easy to just lose yourself in the research, so we’ve begun by focusing on selected topics from our area:

  • military history
  • North Kelvinside Secondary School
  • Westercommon and our section of the canal
  • Garrioch Quadrant
  • World War Two bombing.

Happy North Kelvin researching!
