NKCC health walk, 2 May

Our next walk is on Saturday, 2 May 2026. Destination: Ruchill Park. Meet as usual at 2pm.

Meeting point

Meet on Queen Margaret Bridge at the junction with Queen Margaret Road at 2pm, opposite our noticeboard.

About the walk

The park is at its best in springtime with its daffodils, and this has been enhanced by the efforts of the Friends of Ruchill Park over the past two years. The trees at the flagpole have been reduced in height giving a 360 degree panoramic view. Bulbs have been planted on the pathway up the slope to the flagpole, but their blooming will not appear until next year.

It is also a walk which gets the heart pumping!

The route

We will go up Queen Margaret Drive and Bilsland Drive, entering the park at the gate at the corner of Murano St. We will circumnavigate the park in a clockwise direction. By the time we reach the foot of the flagpole hill we can decide if we want to ascend or whether our legs are too ‘jelly-like’ by this stage.

We exit the park at a gate in Murano St, go through the Student Village, cross the canal at the footbridge and come down to Maryhill Road at the Fire Station. We cross and go between the Fire Station and the pub to Kelvinside Avenue and down to QMD, where those gasping for caffeine or a cuppa can slake their thirst.

There is no need to book – you can just come along on the day.

Remember…

★ Please wear comfortable shoes

★ Dress for the weather and consider bringing drinking water

★ Walkers needing 1:1 support should bring a buddy with them to help

★ Children must be accompanied by an adult
