NKCC health walk 24 May

This walk will go to Lambhill Cemetery via the canal and Cadder. The walk is about 6km (3.75 miles).

Meeting point

Meet on Queen Margaret Bridge at the junction with Queen Margaret Road at 2pm, opposite our noticeboard.

The route in detail

From QMD, we go via Clouston St, North Kelvin Meadow, Northumberland Drive, Hotspur St, Garrioch Road, Shakespeare St to the canal. Then we go west to Stockingfield Bridge and, after crossing, we go down the ramp to Lochburn Road.

We go along Lochburn Road, turn left up Cadder Road, then first right along Langa St. Just after the bend on Langa St, we enter a footpath which takes us through woodland and emerges at Vaila Street in Cadder. We bear slightly left and continue on Vaila St to Skirsa St opposite Cadder Community Centre. We turn left, cross Skirsa Street and go up Fara St (at the end of the Community Centre).

This brings us to Tresta Road with the St Kentigern's entrance to the cemetery directly opposite. We follow the path to the left and skirt around the two crematoria where we meet a main path, where we turn left towards the gate on Tresta Road. We follow Tresta Road to a roundabout where it becomes Cadder Road and continue down Cadder Road to rejoin Lochburn Road and turn right, passing under the aqueduct and, immediately turning left to take the path to the canal towpath, which we follow eastwards and, opposite Maryhill Fire Station, descend to Maryhill Road. We cross and continue ahead to Kelvinside Avenue then turn right and go downhill to Queen Margaret Drive.

Under the aqueduct on Lochburn Road the footway and carriageway are very narrow, but there are traffic lights with phases for pedestrians, cyclists and for cars in each direction.
