Meeting point

Meet on Queen Margaret Bridge at the junction with Queen Margaret Road at 2pm, opposite our noticeboard.

About the walk

We will walk along the south bank of the Clyde from Govan to Finnieston. The route is 9 kilometres  (5.9 miles).

The route in detail

The route is Queen Margaret Drive, Byres Road, Cooper's Well St, Benalder St, Old Dumbarton Road, Ferry Road and underneath the Expressway to the Riverside Museum and the new footbridge to Govan.

On arriving on the Govan side, we immediately go left to the riverside, where there is a path upstream, which we follow until the path ends at the derelict dry-dock. We turn right on a path between house to Napier Drive which we follow in the direction of Govan Road, but before reaching Govan road we turn left into Clydebrae St and then right into Stag St, from which we join Govan Road.

We continue west (towards the city centre, and can enter a 'gated community' in which we can join the riverside path again, but, we have to exit by the same gate we came in and continue along Govan Road alongside the wall of the former Prince's Dock.

We then turn left into the former dock area which contains the Science Centre, IMAX cinema, BBC, Millennium Tower. We will ramble around there before going along the path between the BBC and the river towards Bell's Bridge, where we cross to the north side.

We go round the right-hand end of the Armadillo and head towards the 'red tunnel in the sky' and emerge on Minerva St adjacent to the SECC Train Station. We go left up Minerva St then left along St Vincent Crescent and right into Corunna St.

We cross Argyle St and go along Kelvingrove St to Kelvingrove Park. In the park we go left and walk to Kelvin Way, then right along Kelvin Way, continuing along Bank Street to Great Western Road. After crossing GWR we follow the lane alongside Kitty O'Shea's pub and come out on Lacrosse Terrace.

We go right to Belmont St, cross the Kelvin then left into Doune Gardens/Doune Quadrant/Queen Margaret Road and finish!

There are several main roads to cross, but all have signal-controlled crossings.
