Meeting point

Meet on Queen Margaret Bridge at the junction with Queen Margaret Road at 2pm, opposite our noticeboard.

About the walk

Construction work is largely completed on the former Ruchill Hospital site. There were two contractors and there was a barrier between the sites, but we can now traverse it from Bilsland Drive to Panmure St.

We will go up Queen Margaret Drive to Maryhill Road, cross, and go left, then right into Bilsland Drive, and follow the footway under the aqueduct to the junction with Murano St. We will enter the park and follow the path parallel to Bilsland Drive before emerging on to Bilsland Drive again. We turn right and after a short distance turn right into Bilsland Avenue, which goes steadily uphill to reach Ashlar Village, one of the two on the former hospital site.

We will ramble through the new streets – left into Radiography Drive, turn right into Laboratory Place, left into Water Tower Place, right into Vaccine Drive, right into Radiography Drive (a different section) and go along to Virology Grove. This takes into McDonald Village – every street is McDonald Something! We turn right into McDonald Drive which leads us out into Panmure St.

We turn right and cross at the traffic lights and continue along Panmure St to its junction with Firhill Road. After a short distance down Firhill Road, we turn right into Murano St and, about midway along, turn into the Student Village and make our way through it to the footbridge over the canal opposite Maryhill Fire Station. Then, across Maryhill Road, past the drop off point for the school and turn right into Kelvinside Avenue and return to Queen Margaret Drive.

There is no need to book – you can just come along on the day.

Remember…

★ Please wear comfortable shoes

★ Dress for the weather and consider bringing drinking water

★ Walkers needing 1:1 support should bring a buddy with them to help

★ Children must be accompanied by an adult
