NKCC health walk 27 June

Our next walk is on Saturday 27 June and will go to to the Kelvin Aqueduct to see where the aqueduct has been drained to fix the leaks. This walk is mainly along the River Kelvin walkway.

Meeting point

Meet on Queen Margaret Bridge at the junction with Queen Margaret Road at 2pm, opposite our noticeboard.

About the walk

The route is 4.55km or 2.83 miles.

Access/safety

There are a few steps down to the river. Part of the route (the return route on the path from Kelvindale Road to the Puppet Theatre) can be muddy if the weather has been wet and is uneven underfoot. The path across the aqueduct is narrower than usual due to fencing beside the canal.

The route in detail

We will cross Queen Margaret Drive, onto Kelvin Drive to the sloped path down to the Kelvin Walkway. There are a few steps at the top and bottom of this path.

From there we will walk along the river to the Friends of the River Kelvin building, turning right.

We will walk along the right-hand side of the river, under Kirklee Bridge, up the slope to the path past where the Wyndford tall flats used to be, along the river, crossing Kelvindale Road and up to where the river walkway meets the aqueduct.

We will walk up onto the aqueduct, then left across the aqueduct and down the path to the left and down through the houses back to Kelvindale Road. Please note the aqueduct walkway is currently quite narrow due to the fencing on the canal side.

Turning left at the Puppet Theatre, along Bellshaugh Road, Kirklee Road, Clouston Street, and back to the start.

Registration

There is no need to book – you can just come along on the day.

Remember…

★ Please wear comfortable shoes

★ Dress for the weather and consider bringing drinking water

★ Walkers needing 1:1 support should bring a buddy with them to help

★ Children must be accompanied by an adult
