NKCC health walk to Cadder Woods on 11 Oct

Our next walk is on Saturday 11th October. We will explore a section of Cadder Woods.

Meeting point

Meet on Queen Margaret Bridge at the junction with Queen Margaret Road at 2pm, opposite our noticeboard.

About the walk

The walk is 5.8km or 3.6 miles, about 1½ hours or so.

Full details of the route

Cross Queen Margaret Drive and head north past the Happy Park and across Hotspur St. We enter the housing estate at the main gate opposite the primary school and follow the footway along Oran Place, Oran St, Oran Gardens and Oran Gate, emerging on Avenuepark St.

We cross, turn right and then take first left into Hathaway Lane and onward to Shakespeare St. We turn right towards Maryhill Road and cross at the Viking pub and continue up Shakespeare St to the canal towpath near the firmer Ruchill Parish Church.

We turn left under the bridge and continue on the towpath to Stockingfield Bridge.

Some of our walkers standing beside the huge Beithir sculpture of a serpent. Its head is inlaid with colourful mosaics and it has jagged shiny white teeth.

The Beithir on the other side of the Stockingfield Bridge

We cross the bridge, continuing until we rejoin the towpath. We turn sharp left and go down the slope to Lochburn Road and cross at the lights. We turn right and follow the footway until we join Cadder Road, where we turn left.

We cross Cadder Road and continue until we meet Langa St, where we turn right. We go along Langa St, which has a sharp left turn. At the apex of this turn there is a footpath between two houses. We turn right into this path and after a short while turn left underneath a railway line.

We continue on the path and take first left and follow this path which runs parallel to the railway to its end where there is a short flight of steps. A little to the left, there is another short flight of steps which bring us on to the canal towpath. We turn right, follow the towpath to Stockingfield Bridge, cross and continue on the towpath toward Ruchill St.

We go under the bridge and continue until the footbridge opposite Maryhill Fire Station, where we go down to Maryhill Road. We cross and go between the fire station and the pub to Kelvinside Avenue where we turn right and walk to Queen Margaret Drive. We turn left past Tesco and continue to Queen Margaret Road and the end of the walk.
